Limited trim but front wheel drive, aka Loaded Mall Crawler Edition. One of the few subcompacts that can be optioned with a power tailgate.

That’s a Compass, right?

How well does it shift? I ask because the few newer cars I’ve been in seem to be dim witted

This is an ongoing problem with FCA’s 9-speed AT.

Fortunately, the Mall Crawler Edition (2WD) has a more traditional Aisin 6AT. Its response is quite good so far, and no worse than older ATs that we perceive as normal.

I’m glad they offer 2WD with the Limited trim. This car will never see deep mud or any real inclement weather.

Yes, I can’t quite believe it. Ten years ago if you told me I would be married with a kid and a Jeep Compass, I’d have gone into depression.

Why are the fog lights bigger than the head lights?

Fortunately for me the new Compass is a much more desirable product. I’m honestly surprised that she liked this so much more than the HR-V, which is the default Asian choice of the segment.

This was a jab at the outgoing Compass and it’s homely looks.

It’s still a fwd Jeep. That’s just dirty.

That’s the trim around the fog lights.

My sister is probably picking up one of these this weekend. I like the styling of the new ones.

Have you driven the previous-gen Compass? My wife has one as a rental car right now and it is literally the worst car I’ve ever driven.

I actually did not know they offered a 6AT in that car, learn something every day.

Old ass engine and CVT, new ones are a HUGE improvement.

I can imagine! When she told me what she had gotten as a rental I was excited, thinking it was the new model like yours. Then she pulled up in the old one :(. Everything on it feels chinsy - the engine, doors, touchpoints, switches, handles, etc. Nothing you touch feels good. Extremely slow - almost dangerously. Lousy gas mileage for something so slow. I can’t fathom why someone would spend money on the older gen. I’m trying to think of something nice to say and I can’t.

It’s in the CX-3 class but in between the CX-3 and CX-5 size.

The dealer said they need to sell 20 non-Trailhawk Compasses to get an allocation for a Trailhawk.

In fact, they traded a Trailhawk with another dealer to get our Limited. The Pearl White Tri-Coat is hard to find.

The new Compass (Mall-wheel-drive Latitude with the pano roof) will likely be my wife’s next car after Meepster is more paid down and we both graduate. How’s the highway ride?

Surprisingly upscale/quiet. This one has the 19” wheels which I didn’t want (harsher ride and easier to bend), but this was the only car we could find with the pearl white paint.

Baby Evoque at half the price! It looks deceivingly upscale in Limited trim with the contrast black roof and the very clever chrome styling line.

Why? FCA should be taking any sale they can get. If Trailhawks are in demand, stock dealer lots with Trailhawks.

I wouldn’t know what goes on in their production allocations, but it sounds like for whatever reason Trailhawks are in short supply.

That’s good to hear. The Renegade is not bad but it still feels like a European hatchback on the highway. It’s not bouncy but it has stiff springs and shocks are heavily damped so a good bit of road vibration comes into the cabin. Given that the Compass is the long-wheelbase version of this platform it should be a smoother ride.

The Renegade definitely has a cool factor that the Compass can’t match. But for family duty, it’s simply too small.

Also, I’m going to guess that the Compass has more sound insulation and overall refinement due to the longer wheelbase.
